Spanish racer Raul Torras Martinez has died after an accident in the opening Supertwin race of the 2023 Isle of Man TT.
The 46-year-old from Sant Hilari Sacalm in Catalunya lost his life after crashing at the Alpine corner during the third and final lap of Tuesday’s race.
Raul first raced at the TT in 2017, and since then went on to rack up an impressive racing CV at the historic event, with his best result coming as a 15th place in last year’s Supertwin race.
Completing 21 races, he won coveted bronze replicas (the trophies awarded to all finishers who complete the race within 110% of the winner’s time) in 18 of them, and set his fastest-ever lap of the TT at an average speed 125.470mph earlier on Tuesday during the opening Superstock TT.
Beyond his racing accomplishments, however, the friendly and outgoing racer also established himself as one of the most popular riders in the paddock, quickly becoming a favourite not only with fans but also with his fellow competitors, something that was apparent during his recent appearance in TT documentary series No Room for Error.
