Pierre Gasly’s 2023 AlphaTauri announcement means he will be set for his fifth full-time season in Red Bull’s ‘other’ team – in addition to partial stints in 2017 and 2019.
And the fact that it’s come as no surprise reflects the unusual situation in which Red Bull – a programme that once prided itself in prioritising homegrown options over outside recruits – has found itself, with Sergio Perez cutting off Gasly’s path to the main team and no obvious junior standout to put pressure on him from lower down the ladder.
Our F1 writers Edd Straw and Scott Mitchell join Glenn Freeman to discuss the wider situation, as well as what the future may hold for Gasly and who Red Bull might bring into F1 going forward following its longest-tenured junior Juri Vips getting himself suspended.
